My great-great grandfather, Frank Whitmore come to Chicago around 1880 from Bath, Me..  He subsequently joined the Chicago Fire Patrol and was ultimately promoted to "chief assistant".  During these years in Chicago, he achieved notoriety as a professional wrestler who wrestled many of the best touring wrestlers of the day including past and present world champions.  In 1894, he was hired to form the St. Paul, MN Fire Insurance Patrol where he served as Superintendent until his death in 1922.  From all I've uncovered, Chicago was a wild place during these times!

Thanks for the info on your great-great grandfather. He is listed in the 1887 & 1888 Patrol Annual reports as a patrolman so I unfortunately I can’t give you the exact date when he was promoted. Do you have any photos or information on him while he was on the Chicago Patrol? Do you have the book, “While the Flames Raged” by Emmonds E. Douglass? It’s a great book that covers all the Fire Patrols that were in existence. There is only one page on the St. Paul, MN Fire Insurance Patrol but it lists your great-great grandfather as the Superintendent. We still have books available in case you are interested in the organization your great-great grandfather was a part of.

I'm afraid I have little information regarding his work on the Chicago Fire Patrol.  I do have several newspaper clippings of is wrestling bouts during this time.  A few of the clippings mention that he was a  fireman.  Clippings about his funeral in 1922 go into more detail regarding his career.  These clippings have photos or drawings of Frank Whitmore . These could be scanned if they they are of interest to your organization.
